For information on the factors driving changes in GST distribution revenue to individual states and territories. See: About GST distribution | Commonwealth Grants Commission (cgc.gov.au).
The Commonwealth Grants Commission provides independent advice to the Australian Government on the distribution of the GST to the states and territories. Australia’s GST distribution arrangements are governed by relevant legislation and seek to provide the states and territories with a similar fiscal capacity to provide services. The Commission’s recommendations for the distribution of GST revenue consider the different revenue raising capacities of the states and territories and differences in the costs they face in providing services.
The Chair of the Commission, Mr. Mike Callaghan AM PSM, will be available to provide background on the GST distribution recommendations. To arrange a call with Mr. Callaghan, please email media@cgc.gov.au.
