Each year the Treasurer asks the Commonwealth Grants Commission to update the relativities used to distribute revenue from the Goods and Services Tax (GST) pool to state and territory governments. In updating relativities, the Commission follows the terms of reference issued by the Treasurer. It also consults with state and territory governments on new issues of relevance. The Commission is asked by the Treasurer to periodically review its methods, typically around every five years.
